The game can be played one-handed since Mario moves automatically like other endless runner games. Mario will be able to auto-jump over small obstacles, including goombas, and occasionally put a halt to his movement through special pause blocks.
U.S. Talk show host Jimmy Fallon debuted Super Mario Run on a recent episode of The Tonight Show, where the creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and many other iconic Nintendo characters, Shigeru Miyamoto, was present. An interview with Miyamoto posted on The Verge explains his thoughts on the direction of the franchise:
“I feel like Mario was what introduced millions of people to video games and interactive entertainment, and I think that Mario will continue to serve that role.”
During the episode, President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aimé revealed that Super Mario Run would be available across Apple stores worldwide as a free demo, starting from December 8. There was also a surprise announcement showcasing the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Run marks Mario’s first appearance on a mobile device. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has previously hinted at the possibility of seeing Mario on Xbox in future.
Super Mario Run is scheduled to release on December 15 for iOS devices.
