Earlier today, Sony and Naughty Dog teased the fans with an announcement trailer of The Last of Us Part 2. However, during The Last of Us panel that is currently underway, director Neil Druckmann revealed that players will be taking on the role of Ellie this time around.
The first game in the series, players got accustomed to playing as Joel while Ellie would play backup via an AI, however, it seems that part 2 is going to switch things up. As you can see from the trailer, Ellie has aged, giving her more versatility when it comes to combat.
Druckmann went on to say that Ellie will play differently than Joel. No details on exactly how that will be portrayed, but that shouldn’t come as a shocker to anyone. The panel also went on to state that the game’s main theme is centered around hate.
While the first title pushed the love theme, part 2 is basically the counter of that and is “about hate and how we use all of those same things to make the player feel that.”
The Last of Us Part 2 is still ways off, but it’s nice to see the direction the games headed.
