If you've been keeping up with the news, you might have heard that Zynga — makers of Farmville and other successful casual games — is in a slump. So much so, that their stock can barely manage to be at $3,00.
One company who's not feeling sorry for Zynga is competitor Electronic Arts. While EA is mostly known for publishing Madden, Mass Effect, Battlefield and a slew of other core games, EA has a very big presence when it comes to casual games and the mobile/tablet gaming sector.
In a video interview by Bloomberg (via Games Industry), EA COO Peter Moore states that EA is competing in the decathlon, while Zynga is running a marathon and has managed "to hit a wall."
To use, if you will, an Olympic analogy, we're competing in the decathlon and if we miss in one event, we've got nine others we can make up on. Zynga is running a marathon. They just hit the wall and dropped to their knees.
Moore also pointed out that EA has a more diverse portfolio compared to Zynga, with top franchise and brands proliferating across all gaming platforms that's helping the publisher in times when there's a slowdown in social gaming growth.
Do you play any of Zynga's games? To what do you attribute this sudden company crash?
