Rumor: Infinity Ward’s Next Call of Duty Game to Be Cross-Generation

July 25, 2012 by Alex Co

Could Infinity Ward be working a next-gen Call of Duty and porting it down to current-gen consoles? Read on to find out and judge for yourself.

While it's no secret that Infinity Ward is workiing on a new Call of Duty game — it's their "turn," after all — what could be surprising is that the studio might be developing it at the same time as its next-gen counterpart.

This news was dug up by internet sleuth Superannuation, who unearthed a few things that heavily suggest that Infinity Ward is working on both the current and next-gen iteration of Call of Duty — presumably, Modern Warfare 4.

According to Infinity Ward engineer Andrew Aye's resume, he's currently working on an unannounced title for the PS3, XB2 (Xbox 2), PC DX11 and another platform that's yet to be announced (TBA).

In addition to that, Infinity Ward is working on a new "high-end DX11 code base" for the game. Given that most triple A games nowadays cost a ton of money to make — yes, even a yearly title like Call of Duty –it seems highly unlikely that Infinity Ward is making a separate Call of Duty title for both current and next-gen consoles. But is instead, porting one version to the other platform, which would make sense. Also keep in mind that this isn't something new for publisher Activision, as they did the same thing with Call of Duty 2.

Now, before you jump to conclusions, keep in mind that this is entirely a well-educated guess — though it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

In any case, are you excited for a next-gen Call of Duty? What would you like to see different from it?
