Above is the launch trailer for Tequila Works' Deadlight, a very stylish survival horror/platformer coming to XBLA.
The Summer of Arcade title sets the player in an alternate '80s timeline, where a zombie apocalypse has wreaked havoc on the world. In the post-apocalyptic wreckage, protagonist Randall Wayne must climb, run, shoot and jump his way to survival. From the trailer, we can likely expect a lot of very cinematic silhouette from the game, which pretty much sets the tone for a lonely, dystopian universe.
While it might seem unexpected to marry the ubiquitous zombie survival motif with almost-equally ubiquitious platforming conventions, it's not beyond the pale to combine fending off zombies with a type of gameplay which requires the player to seek higher ground. Deadlight doesn't want you to just have at the undead with guns or melee weapons; this is a surefire way to get eaten. Rather, the game asks you to combine your resources and your wits to escape the decomposing hordes.
Deadlight launches next Wednesday, August 1, and will cost 1200 Microsoft Points.
