In what could be one of the biggest slip-ups of the year, EA inadvertently confirmed Battlefield 4's existence via its Origin digital platform.
If you go to Origin, select "Genre" and then "Shooter," you'll see the image above greet you in all its glory (thanks, Mp1st).
Astute readers might remember that EA did the same cross-game promotion when it offered access to Battlefield 3's beta for buyers of 2010's Medal of Honor reboot.
While EA making Battlefield 4 is a no-brainer (Battlefield 3 did manage to sell over 15 million copies to date), is this announcement a tad too soon? It's also worth pointing out that this being the case, that means Battlefield 4 will see a current-gen release.
For PC players this might be no big deal, but for console FPS fans who want more than 24-players on the battlefield, well, that could be a bit of a dilemma. Unless, of course, DICE has found a way to enable more players for the game's console version.
We'll keep you posted as more news develops.
Do you think it's too soon for Battlefield 4 or were you hoping that the next game in the franchise would be Battlefield: Bad Company 3?
