Of the many things to emerge from this year's Comic-Con, this may be the scariest thus far. Above is three minutes of gameplay footage from Ubisoft's upcoming zombie FPS, ZombiU, a reboot of the company's first commercial game, Zombi.
The game makes use of the Wii U's capabilities, particularly, it seems, for things like displaying one's surival kit and inventory (held in a "Bug-Out Bag") and for minor puzzles (lock-picking, for instance.) ZombiU promises some other unusual conceits: one bite is enough to kill, and when you die, it's permanent. You're then forced to choose a new survivor, your dead character now appearing in the game as a zombie and still in possession of a Bug-Out Bag which you can attempt to take. In multiplayer scenarios, other players will be alerted of an imminent death so that they can rush to steal the dying player's inventory.
ZombiU, among other things, really seems to set the tone in terms of lighting and atmosphere, particularly in the "Nursery" scene depicted above. Weapons and inventory pickups seem sparce and basic from this video, (of course you've got your pistol and your shotgun). Altogether the idea of "survival" and "horror" is conveyed pretty effectively by this video.
Enjoy, and try not to soil yourself at about 2:07.
