Michael Fassbender to Star, Co-Produce Assassin’s Creed Flick

July 9, 2012 by Alex Co

Michael Fassbender has signed on to co-produce and star in Ubisoft’s hit Assassin’s Creed movie adaptation.

It seems Ubisoft is dead serious about turning Assassin's Creed into a movie as it's just been revealed that Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, Haywire, Prometheus) is set to star and co-produce in the big screen adaptation.

In a report by Variety, it states that Fassbender will co-produce the flick through his company DMC Film with Conor McCaughan.

Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisof Motion Pictures had this to say regarding this recent agreement.

Michael Fassbender was our first choice" to play the franchise's iconic hooded hero…Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.'

Ubisoft is set to develop the film independently in order to maintan greater creative contorl of their blockbuster franchise's big screen debut.

Currently, there is no distributor attached to the project, but Sony is one of the studios interested. Baronnet states that they're going to be talking to studios once the production package is finalized.

The UMP CEO also adds that to lower the risks involved and to save on production costs, they will be turning to its 26 in-house game studios to handle visual effects work.

There's still no word yet on which Assassin's Creed game the movie will be based, or if it will be an all-new story made just for the flick.

The latest game in the franchise — Assassin's Creed III — is set for release this coming October 30 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
