Dota 2 runs badly on Windows 10. But there’s a good reason for that: Xbox Game DVR. Turn it off, and the game will be a lot smoother and run like it’s supposed to: without hitches and low-framerate.
Valve told the game’s players today that enabling the feature in Windows 10 will cause framerates to take a serious hit. Previously, Reddit user Pimpmuckl made a long post attempting to discover why everyone was having bad framerates in Dota 2 on Windows 10.
Many reported that the framerate drop happened to them after they installed Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which added a lot of unnecessary gaming-related functions to the platform.
Valve has since acknowledged the issue by issuing a new update for Dota 2. If you run it while you have Game DVR enabled, a warning will pop-up instructing you to turn it off.
To do so, simply enter the Xbox app and go to Settings > Game DVR to disable it. This should also aid your framerate in many other games.
