If you’re running a GTX 980 or above, you’ll be sorely disappointed to know that Mafia III is capped to 30fps on the PC, at least for the time being. Most PC gamers who’ve invested in building powerful rigs will no doubt be upset by the game’s current performance on the platform.
The game’s developer Hangar Games says that they’re aware of the problem and are currently working on an update for the PC version, which released yesterday, to provide gamers with the option to play Mafia III at a higher, or even unlimited framerate.
“We are currently working on an update for PC that will give players the option to play Mafia III at higher framerates. We’ll share more details about the update, and when you can expect it to arrive, very soon,” they originally wrote, explaining that they wanted to get the game’s performance consistent across all platforms first. Besides the PC, the game runs smoothly at 30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One.
The post has since been updated to state that the studio has already developed a patch to get the game running at 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second as options in the menu.
“We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected,” they stated. “If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!”
