With October upon us, it’s the season where scary video games get the most attention from the gaming community. Last year, the development studio at Funcom released a bone-chilling walking simulator called The Park, where we saw the mother protagonist lose her grip on reality in a psychological horror kind of way. This year, Funcom is giving the Halloween festivities another go, but from the complete opposite direction. What if you and another player were tasked with spooking each other? That’s the theme they want to explore in Hide and Shriek.
The game takes place in the halls of Little Springs High and Innsmouth Academy. These hallowed establishments of learning hold a dark tradition, where the students sneak into the school at night and turn themselves invisible to scare the bejeesus out of one another. It’s a 1 vs. 1 ten minute showdown where you have to scare the other player, or go even further and lure them into traps and perform an ancient ritual on them. It’s a game where timing is impeccable, and being cunning with the spells at your disposal is the key to victory. The best of the best in this game of haunting will earn their place at the top of the leaderboards.
Hide and Shriek is arriving sometime this October for PC.
