Infinity Blade: Dungeons is Epic Games’ Dungeon Crawler for iOS

June 25, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Infinity Blade: Dungeons is an Epic Games’ "passion project" for the iOS.

Epic Games has a little-known dungeon crawler in development that’s set to take place in the Infinity Blade universe, titled Infinity Blade: Dungeons. The game was unveiled earlier this year at an Apple media event presenting the new iPad.

In Infinity Blade: Dungeons, players take on the role of an apprentice blacksmith who goes on a quest to forge the weapon that will ultimately destroy the Deathless, the Infinity Blade.

Speaking to GameInformer, Epic Games’ Rod Fergusson said that Dungeons came about as a “passion project” for Epic Games and that it was neither an evolution of Infinity Blade, nor the next iteration—but a completely different game.

“What we did after we shipped Gears [of War] 3 is we did a game jam in the studio where we let a bunch of people self-organize into teams and come up with a week of just working in the engine, seeing what kind of fun things they could make,” he said.

“I think it was a group of about seven guys came up with this idea of ‘let’s do a dungeon crawler’; they started building that up and after the week we kind of reviewed all the different prospects and it sort of resonated within the company.”

Infinity Blade: Dungeons is set for release later this year on iOS devices.
