We reported awhile back that id Software's Doom 3 would be getting a re-release in the form of a BFG Edition. Today, Bethesda has announced exactly when that'll happen: on October 16, 2012.
The Doom 3 BFG Edition offers remastered versions of both Doom 3 and the Resurrection of Evil expansion pack, and comes with seven new previously unreleased levels in "The Lost Mission". It also includes both Doom and Doom 2.
In addition to the remastered content for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the entire game has been optimized in 3D, with 5.1 surround sound, Xbox 360 achievements, PlayStation 3 trophies, better rendering and lighting, and a new checkpoint save system so you don't have to enter the menus to mess around with your save slots as much (if at all).
id Software has fine tuned the controls for a console experience (on the console version) and added an armor-mounted flashlight—a feature that was missing from the original game and required players to toggle between their flashlight and their gun every so often.
Doom 3 BFG Edition is set for release on the PC for $29.99, and on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $39.99.
