DICE, the developers behind the Battlefield franchise, is now introducing a rather ingenious way to shore up their community and player-base.
The studio is now giving out what it calls the "DICE Friends" dogtag, which it awards to selected members of the Battlefield community who have supported DICE and Battlefield over the years, and not just in Battlefield 3, but in any Battlefield game.
Daniel Matros, Global Battlefield Community Manager had this to say regarding the matter.
These dogtags can only be received through recommendations by other people and/or what we have seen so far from you in the community…“If you want to recommend someone, please hit us up on twitter, forums or anywhere you see fit. Of course we will need material in order to decide whether this person is worthy of the tag or not. We are rolling out the first batch of these dogtags later this week for 20 people. After that, we will take a look at more names and successfully add those to our DICE Friends dogtag list.
Matros, also known on twitter as zh1nt0, also gave out a list of things players can do to earn these exclusive tags.

I'm guessing those people who record montages that show those uber-awesome jet kills and whatnot get first crack at it? While this does seem like a lot of work just for a couple of in-game dogtags, it's way better than sectioning this off to Battlefield Premium members, no?
In any case, are you one of the privileged few who has one of these? Are you thinking of doing some "community work" to net one or is it too much work for too little of a payoff?
