The Last Guardian Delayed to December

September 12, 2016 by Nick Monroe

We won’t be getting our hands on the game until December 6th.

The Last Guardian was a title that the gaming community saw stuck in development limbo for almost a decade. When it was revealed to be a thing at the past two years of E3 conferences, hope returned that the game would release. While The Last Guardian was scheduled to release in October, unfortunately there’s one last snag before the game hits the finish line.

The news comes to us via a Playstation Blog from Shuhei Yoshida. He announces the team had numerous bugs left to get rid of, and it was important to delivering the proper experience that they prioritized getting rid of them rather than rushing the game out the door.

The entirety of his post is quoted below:

The Last Guardian development team is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks. The Last Guardian will launch on December 6, 2016.

Fumito Ueda (gen Design) and Japan Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.

Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content toward launch.

We appreciate your continued support.

For people who don’t know what the game is about, The Last Guardian is part of the Team Ico series of games. Their fictional universe that started with Ico and continued with Shadow of the Colossus focuses on telling a story by the atmosphere and environment, rather than centering around dialogue straight up. But that doesn’t mean the games aren’t lacking in emotional experiences. Both of the games already released, as well as The Last Guardian, have a focus on the bonds the character makes with the other people and things they encounter throughout their adventure.

The Last Guardian is now set to arrive on December 6th for PS4.
