Major Nelson has tweeted that Xbox 360 users can expect a Spring system update “rolling out to a few this week – everyone else next week.”
This isn’t terribly significant for most gamers as Major Nelson noted in a second tweet that the update contains “behind the scenes improvements and prep for future enhancements.”
Although it hasn’t been outrightly stated, we can all collectively assume that this update is integral to the Xbox Music and SmartGlass features Microsoft talked about implementing at their E3 press conference last week.
So this update isn’t terribly important to many gamers. The SmartGlass functionality is only currently applicable to film and tv shows, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the enthusiasm behind Xbox Music is low-key at best.
All in all, nothing is going to change (that you can see). Your dashboard will still look and work in the same ways, so don’t expect to get too excited, unless backend code really gets you going. To each his own.
