Gamers are Underwhelmed by Microsoft’s Conference

June 5, 2012 by Mat Growcott

People on the internet – despite their usually sunny, accepting disposition – are finding themselves irked with Microsoft’s E3 showing.

A few months ago, I wrote that more people are using their 360 for movie and TV-watching apps than for gaming. For the first time in the console's lifecycle, or any console's lifecycle for that matter, on average it was spending more than half of its time switched on for something other than playing games. It was no surprise then, considering that a great deal of owners use their Xbox 360 for Kinect and TV/Film-based entertainment, that this is what Microsoft focussed on during their conference.

But that doesn't seem to have been enough to capture the imagination of loyal 360 fans who tuned in to watch the conference yesterday and was ultimately left disappointed. Halo, Black Ops II and Gears trailers seem to have left them underwhelmed and highlights of the conference, many feel, came from the multi-platform games – the exclusive DLC did nothing to cheer them up.

EDGE ran with an especially harsh view of the conference, a view that's almost difficult to read at times.
