Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Dated for August Release

June 4, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

CS: GO is headed to the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this August.

Amidst the hype and fury of E3, Valve has confirmed today its plans to release the Hidden Path-developed game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, on August 21 of this year.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a downloadable title that's largely a modern reiteration of the decade old Counter-Strike mod for Half-Life on the PC. The mod saw success in its heyday, and brought copies of Half-Life onto just about every PC gamer's computer.

The new game is expected to arrive on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and Steam for the PC and Mac. Despite its simultaneous release on multiple platforms, no cross-platform gaming is planned. CS: GO will be sold for $15 on all platforms.

CS: GO was developed by Valve Software in cooperation with Hidden Path Entertainment, and offers new game modes, weapons, maps and character skins. It also includes a number of old maps from Counter-Strike, their layouts unchanged. The biggest addition to the game will be the implementation of automated matchmaking and leaderboards.
