Silicon Knights to Appeal Recent Court Ruling

May 31, 2012 by Jacob Saylor

It appears Silicon Knights isn’t done yet – they plan to appeal the hard-fought loss.

For those of you who missed the news yesterday, Epic Games finally put an end to the five-year legal war going on between themselves and Too Human developer Silicon Knights. Epic came out on top with a hefty sum of $4.45 million being sent their way, courtesy of Silicon Knights.

Silicon Knights claimed that Epic Games was spending their money on Gears of War while not providing sufficient upkeep of their Unreal Engine. The Unreal Engine was the software being used to – in part – develop Too Human. From here, it is obvious to see how things went awry.

However, it appears Silicon Knights isn’t done yet – they plan to appeal the hard-fought loss.

“We are disappointed by the outcome and we plan on appealing,” Silicon Knights big-shot Dennis Dyack told GamesIndustry.

In court cases pertinent to video games, it safe to say that – most times – a judge won’t overturn his or her ruling. However, Silicon Knights is likely in a very bad spot at the moment. Too Human flopped, and now they’ve been dealt fines and court costs. This appeal could very well be a last breath for the company, if it should fail.
