If you’ve been following news regarding the upcoming live-adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular video game franchise, Assassin’s Creed, then you know that this is a new standalone film. Rather than taking a single video game or an arch to adapt into a film, the upcoming movie will be something unique with a completely new protagonist character played by Michael Fassbender.
However, that doesn’t mean that the film won’t have any recognizable video game characters. According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly and the films armorer, David Wildgoose, there are a few assassins that are taken directly from the video games that will appear in the film.
There’s no news as to what video game characters David Wildgoose is referring to, but they will apparently be famous characters that fans will probably enjoy seeing. So we can likely cross off any of the main protagonists from past video game installments.
We’re interested in seeing who these characters are, but for now, we’ll have to wait until the film premiers on December 21, 2016.
Depending on how well this video game film live-adaptation does could sway other developers and publishers to allow a film based off their own beloved IPs. This has been a hot topic as of late where it seems that more IP owners are hesitant from allowing film adaptations simply from the fear of negative reviews which may damage the IP altogether.
