There’s an exploit in Overwatch that allows players to spawn in as characters other than Lucio in the game’s new time-limited Lucioball mode. The exploit was discovered by accident, but has since been used to the advantage of more unsportsmanlike players.
Blizzard has said that the Rocket League-style game mode, which is a take on football with 3 Lucios on each time, will not be patched immediately, but warned that anyone using the exploit will be punished for doing so.
Game director Jeff Kaplan warned players who used the exploit that Blizzard will be coming down hard on them if they persist.
Lucioball was designed as a way for players to do something other than capture points and defend objectives and kill their opponents.
“We are in discussions with our Customer Support group to start taking action against those deliberately using the bug to play heroes other than Lucio,” he told forum members.
Kaplan noted that Blizzard has attempted to fix the bug that allows this to happen “numerous times” but had run into “unrelated issues” that prevented this. A fix should be in this week, though, Kaplan hopes.
“Please do not exploit this bug. Fair warning.”
