Still in it's beta form, Guild Wars 2 seems to have a release date. Kotaku reported that a Frys store in Texas has a sign saying that the game will be coming out June 28th of this year. Yet there are conflicting reports, one from GameStop and the other directly from ArenaNet themselves. GameStop has the release date set for June 26th while ArenaNet has this to say:
We have not released an official launch date within 2012 as feedback from our closed and open marketing betas will help us determine an exact release date. We will release Guild Wars 2 when it is ready.
While I do realize that those dates above are most likely placeholders, it does beg the question of whether or not these are guestimates made by ArenaNet themselves which were then given to the retailers. I would imagine that developers, at a certain point, have a generally idea of when they are going to launch their game. Then again with all of these delays happening recently it's probably quite the opposite.
