Sony and the BBC have announced a brand new app for Bravia TVs and Sony Entertainment Network devices (including the PlayStation 3). The BBC Sports App will stream live coverage of various sporting events, including 24 different streams during the Olympics. If you haven't had enough of the Olympics already – thanks to the vast amount we've had to pay for it and the sheer repetitive nature of troglodytes telling us it's an honour to host it – there will be over 2500 hours of coverage via this app.
While no specific date appears to have been announced, you can expect the app by Wimbledon 2012, towards the end of next month.
From the press release:
"Televised sport is one of the biggest rating wins for broadcasters. This truly is a killer app and will provide a substantial amount of additional sporting content that you can't get through the current broadcasting model. We strongly believe this will kick-start more widespread usage of the connected television offering, providing sport fans using the app with in-depth big-screen coverage of their favorite events. The app will also have extensive penetration in the UK thanks to its availability on PlayStation 3" says Uzzell.
"Launching this app to millions of PS3 owners in the UK will be a very welcome addition to PlayStation's universal entertainment credentials" added Alan Duncan, UK Marketing Director for Sony Computer Entertainment UK.
