“Forever Alone” Creator Claims Copyright Infringement Against Team Meat

May 10, 2012 by Dave Oshry

Smells like a forever lawsuit.

Forever Alone!

Did you know you can copyright memes? Apparently that's just what one Dominic Vanner did. Mr. Vanner claims to own the copyright to the "Forever Alone" meme. You know the one. Furthermore, he claims that Team Meat knowingly infringed upon his copyright in Super Meat Boy:

Forever Alone Lawsuit

According to Dominic, who I shall now refer to as Forever Alone Dom:

I wouldn't have minded if you asked permission to use "Forever alone" in SMB but you didn't, and after I made you aware of it you continued to ignore me.

You even used the term "Forever alone" so you can't excuse the fact it's breaching on my copyright.

I didn't give you permission to use it and you didn't pay a usage fee, care to explain?

Sadly, Forever Alone Dom, I don't think Team Meat will explain anything to you. I think they'll simply continue to make games while you remain—wait for it—Forever alone.
