The story of Abatron dates back a few years now. W3Studios launched their Greenlight campaign way back in June 2014, and managed to pick up the approval needed to push their product to Steam. But somewhere along the way, they made the decision to switch from Source Engine to Unreal Engine 4. While it delayed the game a while, the final results of that choice seemed to pay off.
They’re now looking for people to enlist in their Alpha program. To jump on board, sign up to their newsletter by the end of July. On the first day of August, emails and arrangements for playtesting commence properly.
There’s many of the RTS genre gameplay mechanics at work here. You choose your own Galactic faction, and go to war with other alien civilizations. The key to dominating the battlefield is strategically placing your defenses where they’re the most effective, and working towards upgrading your buildings so they can make stronger units. The powerful army you create ushers forth destruction and slaughter on all who stand in your way. Multiplayer mode supports to 8 people, so you can have help test the alpha and have fun with your buddies both at the same time.
What makes Abatron stand apart from what you expect in real-time strategy games is the ability to take control of battlefield units in a first-person shooter perspective, in addition to third person combat. On top of being able to directly guide these units, they apparently have unique abilities when you are at the helm.
