The Resident Evil series may have moved away from its horror roots in recent games, but Resident Evil 6 director Yoshiaki Hirabashi says that the upcoming game will make a return to the survival horror with a new control scheme.
The developer said that the team didn't want to make a "straight up action-type control scheme for the game," responding to a question from 360 Magazine about the state of the series.
"We’re still trying to make a horror experience," said Hirabayashi. "This is horror as entertainment. To that end I think it was necessary to open up the controls a little, make them smoother, so you could immerse yourself in this world more easily."
"But that doesn’t mean you’re going to lose control over the player in terms of how they experience this world we’ve created."
Resident Evil 6 is set for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 2.
