Square Enix’s return to films comes with Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV. Yesterday they put up a trailer on the Playstation channel, showing us what we can expect from the movie.
Here’s a short and sweet plot description.
The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the sacred Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis (Sean Bean) commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx (Aaron Paul) and his fellow soldiers fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae (Lena Headey), captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to the empire’s rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.
The point of the movie is to set the stage for the events of Final Fantasy XV. Prince Noctis’ (FFXV main character) father is King Regis, and he’s at war with an enemy empire. It’ll be one of those father and son bonding types of films – these two people growing to try and understand the other’s perspectives. But there’s also other things, like a war going on. It’s a big step for Final Fantasy to try and give movies another go around. The announcement post says they’ve tried to make a fantasy world that’s both modern and magical at the same time.
Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV comes to theaters on August 19th, but it’ll come to Playstation Video on August 30th. To stay in the loop on news for the Final Fantasy XV game, check out their website, Twitter, and Facebook.
