Sony Announces The Unfinished Swan

May 2, 2012 by Ron Taylor

Sony has a new game called The Unfinished Swan and they want you to know about it.

Sony is the Weinstein Company of video games. They're backing some very artistic, and more often than not, risky titles. And they're going to bat for them. They kind of always have, if you look back.

Their latest endeavor that exemplifies this? Giant Sparrow's The Unfinished Swan. The indie-developed title where you must give color to an all-white, incomplete world was first shown in 2008 and recently became a talking point again when a rumor spread last week that perhaps Sony had picked up the title.

Sony has confirmed such whispers. The title is coming to PSN with Move compatibility and it's development is being housed and supported by Sony Santa Monica. Sony has apparently established a relationship with Giant Sparrow similar to Thatgamecompany. They have a three-game contract which Sony refers to as an "incubation deal". They don't own the team, but during the production of the three titles they're owed, they support them with whatever they need though SSM's resources.

(Fun fact: All first-party project green lights are given out through SSM. Including L.A. Noire back in 2004; when it was set to be a PS2 exclusive prior to being bought off the company by Rockstar Games.)

Hot on the heels of Thatgamecompany's Journey, this is really something for the artsy and indie fans among us to get excited about.
