Australia has had its fair share of hiccups in bringing video games to the mainstream market. There has been constant legislation written against MMORPGS such as World of Warcraft, mainly imposed due to the idea that “playing too many video games is bad for you.” While I am sure many gamers scoff at this idea, it goes without saying that there are still a huge number of people who are bearing of this mentality.
Well, Australia seems to have had a change of heart. The Australian Government’s “Convergence Review” has deemed the video games industry as a vital part of Australia’s economy. The report in question suggests that $2-million to $5-million (AUSD) should be given to Screen Australia. This money will fund the company, who will in turn fund additional game projects.
The full report can be found here, and boy it is a doozy. Take on the challenge of reading it if you dare!
