Evolve Goes Free to Play, Starting Today

July 7, 2016 by Nick Monroe

In an effort to “bring the magic back”, Evolve is removing the game’s price barriers.

EvolveStage2FeaturedEvolve is being relaunched as something called Stage 2. This is the biggest update to the game since it’s February 2015 debut. They’ve added eight hunters and two monsters in the meantime, but it’s clear that Turtle Rock Studios still has more tricks up their sleeve.

The biggest piece of news from their blog post is their executive decision to make the game free to play on PC. “It means we’ve been listening and now we’re taking Evolve in the direction that a lot of you have suggested since the beginning. We’re making Evolve free on PC. No buy-in or box required,” according to the blog post.

EvolveFoundersSome of the big changes include reworking the hunter class to make it more balanced all around, maps and UI improvements, performance enhancements, and a revamped progression system. Anyone that paid for Evolve won’t be forgotten about, however. They’ll be giving those players “Founder” status, and any stuff purchased will transfer over to the new version. These players will get 3000 silver keys and a host of other exclusive bonuses as well.

“Then, when Evolve launched, the reception wasn’t what we expected. Sure, there were some good reviews. There were also bad reviews. Yes, there was excitement. There was also disappointment – for players and for us. The DLC shitstorm hit full force and washed away people’s enthusiasm, dragging us further and further from that first magical pick-up-and-play experience. We want that magic back and we aim to make it happen. We’ve made a lot of changes, improvements and additions to Evolve over the past year and we’ve got a lot more coming. In short, we’re giving this game a vigorous overhaul!”

See here for more information. Evolve is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Tune into their website and Twitter for all the latest updates.
