Free newspaper Metro had a rather shocking headline this morning: "Xbox paedophile predators 'move in on prey within two minutes of contact.'" The article is fully available online and I strongly suggest you give it a read. Really. It'll make your day. Anybody with any sort of knowledge of how the internet, how Xbox Live works, will find this whole thing laughable.
The news, in short, is that people can use social media, the internet and gaming consoles to get access to contact with children. It being 1998, this is an important story that needs to be out there, the evils of the internet are yet to be revealed, obviously.
"Prof Davidson, from Kingston University, added: ‘During our interviews, offenders said they didn’t need to bother with a grooming process when they could immediately ask children for sex or to meet so they could abuse them.'"
Ah, the good old days. When being a paedophile meant working for it. Thanks Prof. Davidson.
