System Shock Remaster Now Being Labeled As Reboot

System Shock was a first-person action video game that was developed by Looking Glass Technologies and released in 1994. Since then, it was revealed that Night Dive Studios, a development team that was founded in 2012, would remaster the video game. However, we’re now getting word that this System Shock remaster has turned into a full reboot according to a discussion Night Dive Studios had with Polygon just last week.

Polygon got the opportunity to speak with the folks over at Night Dive Studios and it was revealed that the development team had more ambition when it came to the remastering of System Shock. Apparently, Night Dive Studios is putting more work into the game that they simply can’t label it as a remastered edition anymore. The development team’s CEO, Stephen Kick, stated the following.

“We felt that the amount of passion and resources that we are putting into this game elevated it beyond the expectations that someone would have for a remaster. This is a full-fledged reboot of a classic game into something new.”

This shred of news comes just before Night Dive Studios launches their Kickstarter campaign to help fund the development of the System Shock reboot. Tomorrow, June 28, 2016, the System Shock reboot Kickstarter campaign will launch and will give gamers the opportunity to pledge money that will in return help pay the developers for this video game production, but also gather select rewards to the backers.

We’re still unsure just what rewards will be placed fully into this Kickstarter campaign, however, according to Polygon, there are reward tiers that offer a collector’s edition of the game along with a Razer-brand laptop with System Shock detailing.

Lastly, if you’re still unsure about the System Shock reboot then you’ll want to check out the demo of this video game that will launch alongside the campaign release. You can pick up the download through various online outlets such as Steam, GOG, and Humble. Regardless, take a look at some of the reboot screenshots down below and keep an eye out for the Kickstarter campaign launch tomorrow.
