Look at that face a – a man of legend!
John Romero is a hugely successful developer who founded id Software and assisted in the production of games such as Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein – all revolutionary titles for their time.
Romero has been a bit quiet lately, handling his new position as CEO of Loot Drop Inc., but he is looking to soon return to his roots.
"Yes, I'm definitely going to be making another shooter and it will be on PC first," he tells Eurogamer.
"I don't want to talk about the details but I already know what it is. I've already kind of designed the thing and it's pretty cool – though of course, I am going to say that. I think it's a neat design, I haven't seen the design anywhere else."
"It's a persistent game, it has persistent player data, the character grows and gets better over time. I think most gamers expect that now anyway, but this was a design I'd done a while ago. I think it's pretty valid.
"You will be playing the game as you would expect a shooter to feel, but the specifics of your situation, narrative wrapper and reward system are all unique. I wouldn't want to give out any specifics until I'm close to shipping it. I've learned my lesson about talking too soon about specific game features and release dates."
He also adds that though the game will be labeled a shooter, many of its tendencies will be reminscent of MMO conventions, noting that the experience will be "MMO-ish."
There's been no word yet on when we will see even a tease for this game, so don't hold your breath for too long. What we can assure you though, is that with a mind like Romero's, we are in for a treat.
