Battlefield 3 adds Rent a Server

April 3, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Having a fully customizable playlist without the hassle of having to play with some of the more unruly sections of the internet is something almost every online gamer wants. Battlefield 3 now has the option to rent a private server, but it doesn’t come cheap.

One of my favourite things about modern gaming is playing online, meeting new people (and then kicking their asses). While I'm relatively lucky when it comes to player ettiquette (my mother has not once been brought into conversation), I can still understand why some people just don't get the same sort of enjoyment out of playing online as I do.

That's why the DICE, the team behind Battlefield 3, have patched in the ability for players to rent servers. If the idea of having you own private digital kingdom sounds fantastic to you, it's a feature that needs to be tried out. From kicking and banning unruly players through to choosing levels and play modes, rent a server lets you play in the way you want, without too much risk of disappointment.

The key word in the name of the service is "rent," and borrowing a piece of the Battlefield 3 pie doesn't come cheaply. A server will cost you 120 microsoft points a day ($1.50) and 2000 points ($25) for a month. That's on top of your Xbox Live subscription. Still, if you're a huge Battlefield fan, it's nice to have the option to take it one step farther.
