The Sims, a world of taking a virtual life and making it your own. If you’ve ever played Sims games before then you know what you are capable of in the games and know how you like to play them. Some people like to stick treating their Sims like their own while others torment their Sims to no end. In SimCity this will be no different according to Creative Director Ocean Quigley. He even says that the behavior of tormenting your sims is “accepted†and a “delightful outcomeâ€.
Quigley had this to say to Vox Games:
“You can do things like let fires burn down whole sections of your city and watch the poor, burning sims come out of the building. You can isolate off a section of your city and watch the whole thing go abandoned and wind up with homeless encampments. … We made it so that you can see them starve and eventually die. That’s part of the gameplay.â€
Now I’ve been know to once or twice place my Sims in room with no doors and then proceed to wait until they wet themselves. Never have I wanted to let them die in such a horrible manner. However the guys making SimCity have to put into their calculations the fact that people will want to be a Joker and just watch the world burn. Almost everything seems to be taken into account, even a scenario where you may just build a fire station in the middle of nowhere with no way to get to the city or if you decide to destroy the fire station.
“So what happens if you put [the firehouse] in the middle of a field and then you cut the road? What happens if you demolish it with a disaster? In all of those cases the firehouse behaves realistically. It behaves as a real firehouse wouldâ€
Quigley says that all of this is good game play, and it’s not a mistake. He’s right, it is good game play but I just can’t stand to watch my Sims suffer anymore than being embarrassed. As if they have souls. Right? RIGHT?!
