Earlier today, many websites including Gameranx reported on the leak of Playstation’s next console, codenamed Orbis. There is more information available now, and some of you may not be so fond of it – I know I’m not.
Going hand-in-hand with reports concerning Microsoft’s next system – codenamed Durango – the Orbis will not support backwards compatibility for Playstation 3 games. This is something the industry has been dreading for quite some time now, and if the reports prove true, we could see an extremely changed landscape in video games next generation.
Furthermore, it appears the Orbis will be taking a stance towards used game sales – an aggressive one, I’m afraid. Reports say that the Orbis will be locking both physical and downloadable games to individual Playstation Network accounts. We here at Gameranx are not particularly excited about this development, but to be fair, the rules regarding downloadable titles were pretty lax to begin with.
