It's coming to a point with GAME that if the company doesn't disappear entirely from our high streets and shopping centres, it will be reduced and changed in such a way that it will be only a shadow of its former self. This isn't news, we've watched as they've gone from one of the biggest companies in the UK to being a company in administration.
And while much of what we've reported has been specific to the British and Spanish versions of the store, there's also the Australian GAME to think about. To the general annoyance and worry of 600+ staff members over there, it seems their relation to the failing European version of the company has yet to be clarified.
So it will come of a relief to them that Paul Yardley, MD of GAME Australia, has spoken with MCV to verify their position.
"GAME’s businesses around the world are going through a challenging time. Regarding our business locally, Australia is a separate legal entity and business from the UK, with a separate management team. The choices that GAME’s UK entities are making don’t necessarily impact us here."
"In case the UK entities do go into administration, the Australian management team and I are working hard on a number of viable alternative options for our business."
Yardley confirmed that GAME Australia would be pushing sales to stay afloat for as long as possible, but buying the company from the GAME Group (who fully own GAME Australia) as it looks to sell off assets is a distinct possibility.
Throughout the last few months, GAME Australia has managed to stock every major title and honour pre-orders.
