Zynga, the unquestionably huge, questionably evil developer of mobile and social games like Farmville and Mafia Wars has purchased OMGPOP, the studio behind recent hit Draw Something.
Though Zynga hasn't disclosed the financial terms behind the deal, AllThingsD is reporting that the price was in the neighborhood of $180 million, wit another $30 million allotted for employee-retention payments.
The New York City-based OMGPOP likely caught Zynga's attention due to the success of their latest release, Draw Something. A social Pictionary game for iOS and Android devices, Draw Something has been downloaded more than 35 million times since it launched six weeks ago. At the moment, the game also happens to be the single highest grossing iOS app out there, pulling in a reported quarter of a million dollars a day.
This isn't the first time Zynga has bought out the compeition, either. In 2010, the company paid $53 million for newtoy, the creators of the immensely popular Words With Friends app, in an attempt to profit from the title's strength.
Following the announcement, Zynga's stock closed up 33 cents, or 2.5%, to finish off the day at $13.72.
