It’s now been eight weeks since PlayStation announced plans to stop making physical games, and another person has come forward to defend them, in a way that could offend some gamers.

Shuhei Yoshida was president of SIE Worldwide Studios at PlayStation for over a decade, and is famous for being part of the sharing PS4 games video.
At the time, Shuhei and Sony seemed to champion gamers’ rights to own games. But Shuhei’s tune has changed, seemingly to match Sony’s.
In a new interview, Shuhei said this:
But personally, I’m a totally digital consumer. I don’t want to manage discs or swap discs. I want all my games on my dashboard, and I just select a game and play it. So, I’m completely digital.
…Even with physical disc games, in most cases, developers are constantly updating and adding game data anyway. Anyone who chooses to purchase a physical version will still need to download new patches, DLC, or updates. So, not having a disc, I don’t understand if it’s such a big issue.
Shuhei retired from Sony last year, but that doesn’t change how this makes their prior stances – and that video – seem insincere in retrospect.
