Bethesda recently just launched the fourth main installment to the Doom franchise. This is a reboot of the series and it has been receiving an overall positive reception. We even gave the game a 9/10, you can check the full review right here. Now modders have decided to transfer the 2016 Doom levels to the original 1993 Doom release.
You’re likely aware of the original Doom and Doom 2 easter egg levels hidden throughout the latest Doom installment. Essentially, gamers can step into the original Doom levels but retain the same character textures as the 2016 release.
These easter eggs sometimes only showcase a small snippet of the original Doom levels, but they become fully playable by selecting them from the main menu. Today, we’re learning of a modding team that is crafting the level designs in the original 1993 Doom that were placed in the 2016 release.
Modders Major Cooke, DBThanatos, and Michaelis are currently working on the game and has released a teaser for the Doom for DooM (D4D) mod. You can see how one level is shaping up and a few of the newly ported weaponry.
You can follow the mod progress through the Zdoom forums where the mod post stated the game should be “coming soonish”.
