The Virtual Boy is sold out in 2026.

As incredible as that sounds, pre-orders for the Switch Online accessory are no longer available on Nintendo’s site. As reported by GoNintendo, they left a message to check back on the store beginning February 16, 2026.
And yes, both the plastic replica of the 1995 32-bit video game system and the cardboard glasses are out of stock. As much as the gadget seemed to be a meme, it’s arguably the first hardware success of this year.
While the Virtual Boy is famous for its disappointing hardware performance, even older gamers may not remember Nintendo spent $ 25 million on a US ad campaign that went nowhere.
That makes its modern success so ironic that it comes full circle. Nintendo didn’t spend that much more on promoting the Virtual Boy today, but the prospect of two unreleased games seems sufficient to bring the fans in.
