Dead Island fans rejoice! We know a third installment is in the works, but now, in a financial report, it’s confirmed that this will be the main focus for Dambuster Studios shortly. That’s a big relief for fans of the franchise, because we all remember just how long it took Dead Island 2 to ship. That game was stuck in what felt like an endless hiatus. But now we know Dead Island 3 is in the works, with several areas of the game in early development.
What’s even more interesting here is that the report confirmed the intended launch window. Now, anything could happen, so there’s always a chance we’ll see the game slip by the intended release year. However, if nothing gets in the way of Dambuster Studios and progress continues smoothly, we’ll see a launch in 2028. That’s the current projection at Dambuster Studios, but not all hands are on deck for this project.
Dead Island 3 Launch Window Revealed
Timur222 on X highlighted the news on Dambuster Studios’ current project. According to the financial report, the game will land in the marketplace sometime in 2028. That’s the goal right now, which would likely see it released across this generation and next-generation platforms. While we don’t have the next PlayStation or Xbox console unveiled quite yet, there’s been speculation that both are coming within the next few years, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to see the game release across both generations.
But as mentioned, there aren’t all hands on deck right now. Instead, the focus has been on getting Dead Island 2 up and running for both Mac and Luna. Once the team nails that down, we’ll see the entire team transition to Dead Island 3. We don’t have much more than the fact that there are some early productions for feature, character, world, and story design.
So while things are moving along, it might be a couple of years before we actually see anything else regarding Dead Island 3. We’re certainly wondering where the game will be taking place next. But all we can do is wait and find out. Meanwhile, if you haven’t played Dead Island 2 yet, we do have a Before You Buy coverage of the game embedded below.
