GTA 6 and GTA Online Fans Point Out Key Facial Differences As Game Trailers Came Out

December 11, 2025 by Todd Black

An ever-evolving process.

There are many questions that gamers have about game development in general, mainly because a great deal of them have never really “peered behind the curtain” to learn what happens behind the scenes, unless a scandal is going on or a big business deal is happening. Anyway, in the case of GTA 6, as well as GTA Online, many fans have noted that when it came to recent trailers for both, the character models for the upcoming protagonist Jason and past fan favorite protagonist Michael changed from one to the other. On Reddit, a person posted screenshots of this and pondered why Rockstar Games did this:

“I wonder why the features changes through the trailers there a lot of reasons and theory’s but if it’s lead to something that mean the delays r for solid reasons I guess I really want to know what y’all think……..

Same was at rdr2 with Arthur but am too lazy to get screenshots.”

As the screenshots prove, these aren’t subtle changes. For Jason’s case, he almost looks like a new character, and for Michael, his age is shown better in one trailer versus the other. Now, we won’t go so far as to say that THIS is the reason that the game continuously gets delayed, but it does show that Rockstar Games is constantly work on the title, and attempting to improve it, even when the game is dropping trailers and getting ever closer to a release date.

In terms of the reaction to the screenshots, many were happy with the changes made, especially to Jason:

“Good thing Jason looks way better. He doesn’t look like a skinny, ugly chopped crackhead like in the leaks.”

“everytime i see the first pic i think of that youtube thumbnail that says “jason is niko””

“Jason’s changes are subtle but probably done to make him look more handsome (they did the same with Arthur, as way early on he looked more gruff)

I’d like to say the change for both Michael and Jason were done to make their faces match the actors more for MoCap purposes, but Michael seems to be the opposite case. Pre-release Michael looks like a spitting image of Ned Luke, but on release think they gave him Robert De Niro like features (probably because of the heat influence).”

With these changes, it honestly makes you wonder how Jason and maybe even Lucia will look in the next GTA 6 trailer. We’ll have to wait and see!
