When a game franchise has a large gap between entries, certain “upgrades” can be expected when the next title comes out. For example, you can often expect a nice job in the visuals. You can also possibly expect new gameplay additions thanks to the new technology that is present, or what other games have done in the same genre. Finally, as confirmed with games like GTA 6, if there’s a real-world technology that can be legitimately added to the game, the developers are likely to add it. In this case, we’re talking about social media, which Rockstar Games has already confirmed will be in the game in certain ways.
The question one Redditors mind is…how much will it be used:
“Do you think they might even go to another step further for ONLINE/ Story mode where you can tag your friends or stuff that is happening in your game or share stories as to events you have created ? Or even go LIVE yourself and ingame players can tune into and watch from their phone in game?”
Given how prominent social media has become, it was inevitable for GTA 6 to use it in some fashion, but Rockstar Games hasn’t really “unveiled” that part of the game just yet. That being said, others do have thoughts:
“I don’t think it’s gonna be something too crazy. I think it’s gonna be similar to how it is in 5 Combined with tv. I wouldn’t be suprised if crimesq we do (story related) Get put on social media Like us robbing a bank for example..
“I see a game loop as playing as Lucia scrolling while Jason AI drives to the destination.”
There are many ways that it could play out in the game, including innocuous examples like the one we just showed you. It’s also possible that Jason and Lucia could merely reference it in the game’s story, as they scroll social media for ideas on how to get out of their situation, or accidentally come across someone who might be able to help.
The idea of a full-blown social network in the title would be quite complicated, even with a long time to work on it. You’d also have to worry about how it would function, how much you would really need to use it, and so on. Now, in the inevitable online mode, we could see more on that front, as it would work with all the players being in the “same world,” but for the main storyline, it’s likely to have limited use.
