Could Red Dead Redemption 2 Be The True Gauge Of How Beautiful GTA 6 Will Be?

November 25, 2025 by Todd Black

It’s only up from here, right?

When a game comes out that is “so good”, it almost defies belief; it really makes you wonder what could possibly be done to top it by that team in the future. We can easily think of certain titles that fit that mix across multiple series and platforms, but the one we’ll focus on now is Red Dead Redemption 2. The game came out in 2018, a few years before the arrival of next-gen consoles, specifically the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and yet, Rockstar Games made it shine as few games had at that point in time. As such, many fans hold it in high esteem.

That includes those on Reddit, who noted that it’s been over seven years since the game’s release, and that Rockstar Games has been working on GTA 6 pretty much ever since, and that game will likely be a “visual upgrade” over what Red Dead Redemption 2 did. For those Redditors, this is something that could be very special indeed:

“Replaying RDR2 right now and man, we are in for something mind-melting. I genuinely cannot believe how good the game still looks. It’s nearly unmatched!”

It does make you wonder how things will look in Vice City and Leonida as a whole once we’re able to truly dive into it. The next-gen technology of the PS5 and Xbox Series X will definitely help with things, and the trailers for the upcoming title have highlighted an incredible quality in its character models, scenes, and how the cinematics look. While some fans are rightfully nervous about what Rockstar is doing, they are remaining positive…for the most part:

“Here’s hoping the first post-Dan Houser Rockstar title lives up to the hype.

7 years later, and I still think the bar to clear is RDR2. Not just for Rockstar, but any new video game!”

A high bar to clear indeed. The game is so popular that even seven years later, it’s still being referenced in popular culture, including having the track “American Venom” be used as the entrance music for All Elite Wrestling star and former world champion Hangman Adam Page.

But what can we really expect from Rockstar Games with its next title? 60 FPS seems like a lock, given the abilities of the new system, and there are many who feel that we could see more “realistic effects” with things like the weather, how the world looks at various parts of the day, and so on.

All will be revealed in about one year’s time.
