Could Rockstar Games Start A “Smaller Project” After GTA 6 Is Done?

November 25, 2025 by Todd Black

…it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world…

One of the biggest reasons that people are hyped for GTA 6 is that they KNOW that Rockstar Games will do all they can to make it the most epic game possible. Ever since they literally “changed the game” with the third entry in their crime saga, every new numbered entry has been bigger than the last, and arguably changed the game even further. With the 6th entry, things are even more fever-pitched, thanks to all the delays that have happened. Many even think that Rockstar will delay the game again, which will further set off the fans for a while to come.

One interesting byproduct of this, though, is that some fans are wondering what Rockstar Games may do AFTER the game potentially releases next year. Yes, we know that, based on past history, the team will focus on the PC version, and then the inevitable online content upgrade/release that will keep them occupied for even longer, but what about another project entirely?

Over on Reddit, a gamer fairly asked a simple question:

“After the release of GTA6 , do you think Rockstar may focus on ‘smaller’ games like bully or midnight club?”

An interesting question to ponder, and they later followed up by noting that Rockstar could do “smaller projects” after this game’s release, which might not be the worst thing in the world. We really don’t know when they “started” working on this upcoming title, although the team claimed it started really “building steam” in 2020. Even then, between the 5th and 6th entries of their series, they’ve only released one game in between, and that was a title that took many years to make as well.

Given the size of Rockstar, in terms of employee count, it wouldn’t be impossible to dedicate a team to a smaller project so that they could “shake things up” and not solely be rooted in one thing.

So, why would Rockstar NOT be up for doing that? Simply put, as the 5th entry and its online component highlighted, it prints money. Yeah, the reason the 6th entry took so long to come out was that Rockstar was rolling in the money that the online contingent was bringing in on the regular. It’s still bringing in money right now, even! So, if the upcoming game’s launch is as big as they think it’ll be, the team will be focused on making even more money via the PC release and the online expansion to keep it coming.
