It turns out that even the people making Grand Theft Auto 6 don’t know a lot about the game, even now that they’re rushing to finish it.

Podcaster Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly shared an interview with Rockstar developer David O’Reilly.
We verified on MobyGames that O’Reilly has credits on Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. He explained in this interview that he is only active at work on Grand Theft Auto 6 now.
As Kiwi Talkz shared on Twitter, developers like Reece O’Reilly don’t know about Grand Theft Auto 6’s story details. This is because Rockstar is a large company, split into big divisions.
But we think it would be best to let O’Reilly explain this in his own words:
I think people are surprised on on YouTube and stuff how little I know about GTA V and RDR2, you know.
It’s like, you know, they’re surprised that I don’t know this um obscure bit of lore about characters or or why this mission was designed with this and compared to the trailer that came out and why was this different?
And I’m like, well, I don’t know. you know, it’s like it’s you can’t know it all, you know, as um whatever your job is, that’s what you’re doing.
…So like for instance, like GTA 6, you know. People are like, do you know the story and you know what’s this what’s the deal with Jason and this year blah blah blah? And I’m like I have no idea.
I don’t know cuz, you know, I worked on it for like, you know, like like five years, but I have no idea about the story line other than that like I knew it had like two two characters and and that was the extent of my knowledge.
So, you know, I’m like, are you sure you worked on that game? Yeah. But yeah, I just did terrain, man.
Obviously, there are people who know about Grand Theft Auto 6’s story, and that’s the team that Sam Houser is in. But with the over 2,000 employees in Rockstar Games (as of 2018) and the 9,639 of 12,371 Take-Two employees being their game developers, there’s a lot more people who are making Grand Theft Auto 6 who barely know anything about it.
With that in mind, we should also understand that these devs don’t know how far along the game is outside of their department. Ultimately, it’s the higher ups who can see where everything is going, and can say if their game is coming on time, or if it needs to get that delay again.
