There’s a strange rumor that’s spread around about Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date.

Since Rockstar announced the game’s second delay to November 19, 2026, rumors have started spreading wildly. Some of these are just fearmongering from ‘fans’ who want the attention.
But one particular rumor seemed to go in the other direction. It seemed to be oddly positive about the delay, alleging that Rockstar had a wider plan for it.
The Bonnie and Clyde Rumor
The GTA6 subreddit had this post from dropssupreme two days ago:
Next tentative release date is the same as Bonnie & Clyde first alleged bank robbery
Bonnie and Clyde reportedly robbed their first bank on November 19th 1932. This would be the second times a release date announced matches something related to Bonnie & Clyde, as the previous one was related to their funerals on May 26th
Dropssupreme also shared a screenshot from what is allegedly the UPI Almanac on the internet. This page, dated November 19, 2016, claimed that Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow held their first bank robbery in this date.
As best as we can tell, this is the original source of this rumor that has since spread across social media. But now we have to unpack if this rumor is real.
Is The UPI Almanac Page Real?
Now, this may surprise you, but we found the UPI Almanac page. UPI stands for United Press International, a news service that was founded in 1907. In fact, they uploaded their news report from 1934 when Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed by lawmen and finally killed.
Here’s what the page says, word for word:
UPI Almanac for Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016
On Nov. 19, 1932, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow carried out the first of their series of bank robberies. The notorious gangsters would meet their end just four years later.
So, if you don’t see it, this page already has a clear typo. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow died in a shootout with lawmen in 1934, which was two years after this alleged date.
After some research, we figured out that the closest robbery referred to here was the November 30, 1932 robbery of Oronogo bank in Missouri. You can watch a video about this robbery here, but even here the UPI account is somewhat misleading.
Bonnie had already been caught by the police in April 19, 1932, after a failed hardware store burglary in Kaufman County, Texas. She was well in her criminal career by the time this Oronogo bank robbery happened.
Is This Rumor Real?
You may have expected our conclusion, but not quite how we got here. It’s possible that the original Reddit about this was made in good faith.
It just so happens that this claim on the UPI page does not hold up to scrutiny. It’s really doubtful that Rockstar had this incorrect date in mind for their new release date for Grand Theft Auto 6.
It’s more likely that Take-Two and Rockstar just don’t want to ship a broken game and face a Cyberpunk: 2077 situation. Ubisoft faced similar issues with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Their decision to delay the game to polish and fix problems with the game turned out to be the right one.
It would have certainly been fascinating if Rockstar wanted to connect Bonnie and Clyde to Lucia and Jason. But if you know the real history behind this, you would know that Rockstar would want to make Lucia and Jason way more competent than Bonnie and Clyde ever were.
