Borderlands 4 Latest Update Kills Off Vendor Cooldown Trick

October 24, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

The patch broke one of the most useful farming tools.

Patches can be a bit of a cat-and-mouse game. Developers are constantly striving to create a better player experience. Various patches go out to fix bugs, add quality-of-life improvements, and add new content for players. However, you’ll sometimes find that a patch update can have an opposite effect on the gameplay experience in one area or another. That’s what happened recently with Gearbox Software’s latest game release, Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 came out last month, and since its release, the developers over at Gearbox Software have been busy. We’ve seen a steady stream of patch updates for the game over the past few weeks. Players would typically get these updates before the weekend, hopefully giving them a smoother experience before developers likely head out for the work week. However, the latest patch update was not entirely thrilling for fans.

Borderlands 4 Patch Breaks Vendor Trick

A fix to another bug related to camera movements caused an unintended QoL hit here. We're going to add the cooldown reset back.

The latest patch update came out yesterday, and with it, we saw some nerfs. That was something we knew would be coming with the latest patch. However, what fans did not anticipate was the vendor trick being killed off. If you were not aware, players could simply open up a vendor and close out, which would reset their action skills.

This trick is handy when you’re farming for certain items in Borderlands 4, especially if it’s a boss battle drop. The new patch kills this trick, but Gearbox Software didn’t intend it. On X, EpicNNG brought this to their followers’ attention. However, it also caught Grant’s attention, the studio’s associate creative director.

Grant alerted EpicNNG that this was not intended and was a byproduct of another bug fix. As a result, this will be fixed. Of course, we don’t know when that will be. It could be fixed for the next update, or it might not make it in time. We’ll just have to wait and see what ends up being the case. At the very least, we know it will be making a return.

Meanwhile, in other Borderlands 4 news, a new event kicked off yesterday. If you haven’t logged on yet, you have time to check out the new Horrors of Kairos. The update brings some goodies to the game, available until November 6, 2025, which you can read more about right here.
