Autodesk has uploaded the entireity of Ubisoft's 26-minute GDC presentation on Far Cry 3. Entitled "Enhancing Performance Capture on Ubisoft Far Cry 3 using Autodesk MotionBuilder," delves into the tools and technologies the studio used to craft the impressive character animations we saw in the game's debut trailer.
Even if the finer nuances of animation don't grab your attention, there are plenty of fascinating insights into Far Cry 3's development here, including behind-the-scenes videos of the motion capture performances and some brand new footage of the game in action.
The video also provides confirmation that Far Cry 3 will be the latest game to utilize full performance capture, which simultaneously records both traditional spandex-suit motion capture data and video of the actor's faces. It's an increasingly popular approach in games, with everything from the Uncharted series to Quantic Dream's impressive Kara demo employing some variation of the technology.
Far Cry 3 is out for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on September 4 in North America and September 6 in Europe.
